Our long Midsummerhop weekend starts with a pre-party at one of our traditional party venues. For those of you who arrive on Thursday: Alexianer Waschküche is located close to the main station, so that you can directly crash the party. It`s gonna be small and cozy!
On a short tour, our guests will familiarize themselves with their rental bicycles and the adventures of road traffic in the city of Münster. The destination is a swinging pumpernickel picnic in and in front of the band shell in the Schlossgarten. Voltaire found pumpernickel inedible. Today half the world envies us for the black wholemeal bread, which mutates into a real gourmet food, e.g. combined with the old Gouda of our Dutch neighbours.
Funky moves: Soul, Funk, smooth transitions and clear rhythm. This class will focus on a variety of eight count moves that we will use to encourage a relaxed frame and clear communication with our partner without stress or worry. These dynamic shapes and funky tunes will feel great and there will be plenty of fun for dancers of all levels. With Craig Vanaman (Bristol).
The 1st Midsummerhop Münster starts with a great opening party at the famous Kulturbahnhof Hiltrup. The old station hall is now used as a cultural center. But even though we dance in an old train station, it´s not the old steam trains heating us up, but the seven guys of the ingenious Jake Walker swingband from Ghent with their sparkling sounds of the twenties and thirties.
Not only architecture enthusiasts will be excited about the spatial experience: we start the day with a flash mob in the foyer of the Volker Staab-designed museum on the central cathedral square (Domplatz). From here we will start our cycling tours through the city.
Four topic-based tours will give an insight into the most exciting facets of Münster's rich history, constantly livened up by small breaks for dancing, talking and snacking.
TOUR 1:„Schwoofen, klönen, schnabulieren" will guide us to the “Kuhviertel" with its cozy student pubs.
TOUR 2: "Feine Pinkel" will tell us about distinguished merchants, influential nobles and well-fed clergy.
TOUR 3: "Alles Theater!" will look behind the scenes of the municipal and a free theatre, boosting our own ideas of theatrical interventions.
TOUR 4: "Sculpture Stories" leads us to serious and enjoyable tracks in the city, relicts of "Skulptur Projekte Münster", an exibition of art in public space.
The "coffee lover" awaits you with his mobile bar for a refreshment break (coffee has to be paid individually).
3 - 6.30 PM
Let`s dance open-air! For more than ten years, we have participated in this event. Bands, choirs and soloists "entertain" the trees of the promenade for half an hour each. Of course, swing music won`t be missing ...
How to dance the Peabody: The Peabody is an American ballroom dance evolved from the fast foxtrot of the ragtime era of the 1910s and 1920s. Quite simple and funny for both beginners and advanced dancers. With Uwe Meyer, Tobi Wiesel and Ludger Weidemann (Münster).
Our main party with the fabulous Savoy Satellites from Berlin will take place at a wonderful venue. The Bennohaus with its dancer friendly wooden floor is located directly at the canal, surrounded by a lavish and green setting. We will linger under the secluded pastures, look at the sparkling water from the terrace or relax in the cozy café-bar. And there will be as well a small blues corner!
On Sunday we'll spoil you with a delicious brunch at Epiphanias parish hall with relaxed swing music. In the large foyer and in the courtyard under airy pavilions you'll get the chance to chat with old and new friends. During the farewell party in the main hall we let the first Midsummerhop come to its sunny end (Or you'll stay until Monday and we'll see you at the after party ;-)).
