The Swing Dance Orchestra was founded in 1987 - at that time still under the name Swing Dance Band - in Berlin. Under the direction of Andrej Hermlin the band developed in the following years into an extraordinary Swing Orchestra, whose most important principle is its greatest possible authenticity. The musicians basically renounce any electrical amplification and use - mainly American - original arrangements from the 30s and 40s. Also the stage wardrobe, hairstyles, microphones and music stands correspond to the historical models. They play the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and other stars of the swing era. In recent years, the Swing Dance Orchestra has toured London, Hong Kong, Milan, Vienna, Moscow, Tel Aviv and New York, appeared on radio and television and has been involved in film productions on several occasions. At the Midsummerhop the orchestra plays as a band of ten.

Seven Ghent jazz musicians bring back the vibrant sounds of the twenties and thirties. Not only do they breathe Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton back to life, but they also write their own songs. Jake Walker's swirling swing is guaranteed to drag you onto the dance floor.
